A man reportedly assaults a stranger in a supermarket for wearing a “Trump 2024” hat.

A New York author allegedly attacked a stranger in a supermarket for wearing a Donald Trump hat just days before Election Day, according to authorities.

Robert Yott, 60, is accused of confronting a Trump supporter wearing a “Trump 2024” hat at a Tops Friendly Markets store last Friday around 10 a.m., the Bath village police reported. Yott allegedly struck the victim multiple times in the mouth and head, leaving the person with broken teeth and a bleeding mouth, police said.

The Bath police department described the incident as an “apparent random act of violence.”

Yott was taken into custody and charged with second-degree assault, a felony, and fourth-degree criminal mischief, according to Bath police. Known locally as an author of two military history books, Yott’s arrest was also covered by the Wellsville Sun.

Political tensions are running high in the U.S. ahead of Tuesday’s Election Day, as Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris compete in the presidential race.
