Governor Alex Otti inaugurates 17 new local government chairmen in Abia.



 Abia State Governor Alex Otti has sworn in 17 newly elected local government chairmen following their victory in elections held last Saturday

The swearing-in ceremony took place on Monday, shortly after the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) issued Certificates of Return to the elected officials on Sunday. Of the 17 elected chairmen, 15 are members of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), while two represent the Young Progressives Party (YPP).

The newly inaugurated chairmen include Timothy Iheke for Aba North, Anyanwu Obilor for Aba South, Okereke Ezearo for Arochukwu, Uwabunkeonye Bassey for Bende, Dr. Anthony Nwaubani for Ikwuano, Innocent Uruakpa for Isialangwa North, Nnadozie Nwaogwugwu for Isialangwa South, Chinedu Ekeke for Isukwuato, Maxwell Nwadike for Obingwa, Eleanya Oju-Kalu for Ohafia, Chidi Christian Agu for Osisioma, Ihenacho Chiemela Nwagbara for Ugwunagbo, Chibunna Akara for Ukwa East, Pastor Dike Nwankwo for Ukwa West, Smart Ihuoma for Umuahia North, Chinwendu Enwereuzo for Umuahia South, and Sunday Afuruike for Umunneochi.

During his address, Governor Otti urged the chairman to adopt the “Abia first” vision and focus on driving socio-economic development in their communities. He emphasized the need to tackle persistent issues such as water supply, basic healthcare, education, road maintenance, and security within their local areas.

The governor stated that “the people of Abia should begin to see tangible improvements in their communities over the next six months, particularly for women, youth, and vulnerable groups,” emphasizing the expectation for visible changes in living conditions through proactive governance.
